“How can he teach on money and giving during times like these?”
I overheard a young man ask his friend this question while preaching out of town recently. It’s a valid question.
These are challenging economic times. Unemployment is high, gas prices are hurting our wallets, taxes are increasing and government policies are questionable.Yet, it is always a good time to look into God’s Word for help in this area of money and finances, and what better time than now to search deep in Scripture and learn of the riches of His goodness! God’s promises and provision are not restricted by the economy, neither hindered by government policies.
In Second Corinthians, chapter 9 and verse 8 we read an awesome promise of God, “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:”
Did you notice the choice of words in this scripture? All grace, ALWAYS having ALL sufficiency in ALL things. We can see God is making a point that He is not lacking in resources, and will provide for us as we purpose to do His will (abounding to every good work). Notice with me, verse 10 of the same chapter, “Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness” The promise is, as we honor the Lord with our substance in giving, He meets our needs AND multiplies the “seed sown” – providing more resources for us to use for His purposes!
Would you re-read these passages today and trust God to keep His word?
